Design Tools

SILTspread: Silt Fence Sediment Barrier Design Tool
SILTspread is a user-friendly spreadsheet-based design tool for designers to design silt fence sediment barriers. The workbook allows users to input site specific parameters (i.e., design rainfall depth, contribting drainage areas, and hydrologic soil data) to determine design volumes and peak flow rates. The tool facilitates the sizing of silt fence sediment barriers to meet expected runoff conditions.

SEDspread: Sediment Basin Design Tool
SEDspread is a user-friendly spreadsheet-based design tool for designers to appropriately size sediment basin parameters.  The workbook allows users to input site specific parameters and constraints to determine: basin capacity and configuration, surface skimmer size and dewatering rate, auxiliary spillway design, and baffle configuration.

Silt Fence Tieback Design Tool
A Visual Basic (VBA) coded spreadsheet design tool was developed to assist practitioners in the proper design of silt fence tieback systems to be used on highway construction sites. The tool is used to determine an adequate tieback spacing that will accommodate a user specified rainfall event. The tool is composed of two components which are (1) the stormwater runoff component and (2) the silt fence storage capacity component.

2023 ATAP Construction Stormwater Workshop
This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of erosion and sediment control for active construction projects in Alabama. Attendees will gain fundamental understanding of state regulations, environmental expectations, and methods to develop, maintain, and inspect a stormwater pollution prevention plan. This workshop is designed for professionals new to stormwater management, or those looking for updates on recent changes to state regulations.
