My primary research focus is on production of bioenergy and bioproducts from organic waste streams. I worked on biohydrogen production from lignocellulosic biomass using mixed anaerobic cultures during my Ph.D. at University of Windsor, ON, Canada. Later, I was involved with the development of 3 biofertilizer products for commercialization with Canadian Food Inspection Agency during my tenure as an Associate Scientist at AgraCity Crop & Nutrition Ltd., Wallaceburg, ON, Canada. I have demonstrated that it is possible to recover nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) and energy (biomethane) recovery from waste streams generated during thermochemical conversion process during my previous tenure at Auburn University. I have founded a start-up “ENVIROHIL solutions” during my tenure as DST Inspire Faculty at SASTRA Deemed University that is focused on developing a variety of bio-products from organic wastes generated at our university campus. Currently, I am focusing on upcycling of nutrients from organic waste streams generated from poultry processing industry.
