From Idea to Impact
The Auburn Mechanical Engineering Senior Design Program is a two-semester journey that mirrors real-world engineering practice. Students move from concept to prototype, tackling challenges posed by industry, government, and community partners.
Semester 1: Comprehensive Design I (MECH 4240)
- Define sponsor challenges and engineering requirements
- Explore multiple design concepts through analysis and CAD modeling
- Present mid-semester and final reviews to faculty and stakeholders
Semester 2: Comprehensive Design II (MECH 4250)
- Commit to a Manager’s Project Contract of Deliverables (MPCOD)
- Build and test prototypes in Auburn’s Senior Design Lab
- Deliver final reports and presentations evaluated by sponsors and technical advisors
Outcome
Students graduate with hands-on experience in teamwork, design, prototyping, and project management — skills that employers demand and Auburn engineers are known for.
