Mission and Goals
The Center for Occupational Safety, Ergonomics and Injury Prevention (OSE) was established by Auburn University in 2017. The University's criteria for recognizing a center includes: 1) Consistency of mission with Auburn University, the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and 2) well-defined programs of instruction, research and outreach.
The broad OSE mission is to educate outstanding ergonomics and safety professionals with backgrounds in engineering or physical sciences to:
- Identify, analyze and control occupational safety and ergonomic hazards through engineering methodologies and design
- Conduct innovative and impactful research in occupational safety and ergonomics
- Translate state-of-the-art research into practice
Center director, Jerry Davis said, "Recognition at this level will enhance the visibility of our programs and create more opportunities for our students and faculty as we work with university counterparts, the professional safety community and government and industry collaborators."
