Anton Schindler, Mountain Spirit professor in civil engineering and director of the Highway Research Center, was selected as the 2017 American Concrete Institute Cedric Willson Lightweight Aggregate Concrete Award winner.

A member of the Auburn Engineering faculty since 2002, Schindler’s research portfolio includes early-age behavior of concrete structures, analysis and design of concrete structures and concrete performance modeling. As director of the Highway Research Center, Schindler oversees its mission to support Alabama’s infrastructure durability and performance through innovative, economical and state-of-the-art methods.

The award is given for outstanding contributions in the areas of innovative materials and design in lightweight aggregate, concrete and concrete masonry and is judged by a committee of industry professionals.

“As a department, we are proud to call Anton one of our own and see his work recognized on a national level,” said Andrzej Nowak, department chair of civil engineering. “His leadership and service to the industry exceeds all expectations, and he is truly deserving of this honor.”
