What is the minimum GPA for admission into the Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering?
- 3.0 on the 4.0 scale. Most students admitted into our program have a GPA greater than 3.3.
What is the minimum score on the GRE?
- GRE scores are not required.
What about IELTS/TOEFL scores?
- The minimum score on the TOEFL is 550 (paper test), 213 (electronic test), or 79 (Internet test). Auburn will also accept a 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
- English proficiency exams can be waived if you have a graduate degree from a U.S.accredited institution.
- The self-reported score is sufficient for us to evaluate your application. If you are offered admission and accept our offer, you will need to send your official IELTS/TOEFL score through the testing service.
Will my unoffical transcript be sufficient to submit my application?
- The unofficial transcript is sufficient for us to evaluate your application. If you are offered admission and accept our offer, then we will need your official transcript to fully process your admission.
Should I send my application material directly to the department or to the Graduate School?
- To be considered for admission to our graduate program, please fill out the online application through Auburn University's Graduate School (http://graduate.auburn.edu/).
What is the application deadline for admission consideration for Fall Semester?
- Fall semester is our largest admission semester. For primary consideration for Fall 2026 admittance, submit your application material before December 3rd, 2025.
Is the TSE test required and can it be taken after arriving in Auburn?
- When international students are accepted, they are offered an assistantship. For the first semester, this assistantship is in the form of a teaching assistantship. Teaching assistants must take the TSE. In certain situations, an oral exam can be taken upon arrival in Auburn.
I can't afford to pay tuition or living expenses. Are there assistantships available and when will I know if I have received one?
- All our Ph.D. students receive full financial support of at least $32,500 per year plus tuition for the duration of their graduate work as long as they remain in good academic standing and make satisfactory progress toward their degree. An offer of an assistantship is extended concurrently with the recommendation for admission to our Ph.D. program.

- Our department admits our Ph.D. students as a cohort and you will go through advisor selection after you have started our program.
