What company did you intern with and where are they located?
Garney Construction in Lakeland, FL
How did you identify and apply for your internship? Are there any specific resources you used to find the opportunity (i.e. Handshake, career fairs, other recruitment events)?
I met the recruiter at the spring career fair.
What was the application process like?
I got a interview slot at the career fair and proceeded to do a online interview and submitted an online application.
Tell us about your internship experience. What types of tasks and projects did you engage in? Was there a particular project or part of the experience you learned the most from?
I helped with early contracting work for a wastewater pump station. I wrote subcontracts, purchase orders, and scopes; made takeoffs; and communicated with vendors. I also got to watch a concrete pour, which was really cool to see because of all the work and setup that goes into pouring a slab.
In what ways did this internship help you prepare for your next destination after Auburn?
It gave me the opportunity to work on a real project alongside professionals and meet deadlines. I also got to see and help with all of the contract work required to complete a construction project.
In what ways did your coursework or other experiences at Auburn prepare you for your internships? Are there specific topics or skills you learned from classes that you put into practice on the job?
I already learned how to communicate clearly through emails, create project takeoffs, and solve problems through Engineers Without Borders. I just took those skills and honed them during my internship.
