What company did you intern with and where are they located?

Arcelor Mittal in Calvert Alabama

How did you identify and apply for your internship? Are there any specific resources you used to find the opportunity (i.e. Handshake, career fairs, other recruitment events)?  

I spoke with a recruiter at the career fair and applied online. I used the Career Fair Plus app and website to filter the employers at the career fair to match my skills and interests.

What was the application process like?

The application process was very easy and straightforward. I just had to upload a copy of my resume and answer a couple of essay questions.

Tell us about your internship experience. What types of tasks and projects did you engage in? Was there a particular project or part of the experience you learned the most from?

I was an intern with the Process Technology department in the Hot Strip Mill. I engaged in collecting temperatures of equipment to investigate how it affects its productivity and life span. I learned the most by asking questions and trying to be involved in anything I could get my hands on.

In what ways did this internship help you prepare for your next destination after Auburn?

My experience opened my eyes to the steel industry. I feel strongly that it's where I want to begin my engineering career after Auburn.

In what ways did your coursework or other experiences at Auburn prepare you for your internships? Are there specific topics or skills you learned from classes that you put into practice on the job?

Auburn's engineering program has equipped me well with a multitude of tools in my engineering toolbox to solve complex problems that I've ran across. I have to give credit to Computer-Aided Engineering because it reinforced my skills in Matlab and SolidWorks. I also use thermodynamics and heat transfer to explain different phenomena since heat the main element of my job.
