Staff Research Excellence Award

The Staff Research Excellence Award recognizes a full-time staff member within the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering (SGCOE) who demonstrates exceptional support for the growth and impact of a research program. This award highlights the vital role that staff members play in ensuring the success of research efforts, from administrative support to facilitating resources, project management, and coordination. One award may be given annually with a $1,000 stipend.

Eligibility

  • Open to staff members within SGCOE who have consistently contributed to the success and advancement of a research program.
  • Nominees should demonstrate leadership, initiative, and exceptional support that enhances the overall research productivity and impact of their respective programs.
  • Recipients from the previous five years are not eligible.

Criteria

Nominations can be self-nominations and can be submitted at the department or program level. The nomination package is limited to five pages (12-point font and 1-inch margins), including a two-page letter summarizing the staff member’s contributions to research excellence and up to three pages of other supporting information, all submitted as a single PDF document. Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Research Program Support: The staff member’s role in facilitating and supporting research activities, including managing resources, assisting with project logistics, coordinating efforts across teams, and ensuring the smooth operation of research programs.
  2. Impact on Research Success: The staff member’s contributions to the success of research projects, including securing funding, coordinating research milestones, or improving the overall effectiveness and productivity of research teams.
  3. Collaboration and Teamwork: The staff member’s ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and external partners, fostering an environment that enhances research innovation and problem-solving.
  4. Professionalism and Initiative: The staff member’s professional behavior, initiative in identifying and addressing challenges, and proactive support for the research program’s growth and impact.
  5. Support for Students and Mentorship: Contributions to student success within the research program, including providing mentorship, facilitating internships, or supporting students in their academic and professional development.
