Auburn Makes COVID-19 Response

In early March, Auburn University faculty, backed by university leadership, formed an interdisciplinary group called Auburn Makes to respond to immediate medical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs to fight the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

Faculty quickly assessed available PPE on campus and prepared it for local delivery to East Alabama Medical Center.

Through this coordinated effort, Auburn Makes donated existing supplies to include:

  • Over 400 eyeglass protective wear (goggles, safety glasses, face shields)
  • Over 1,700 respirators (N95, N99, N100, R95, Surgical Masks)
  • Over 300 protective gloves and lab coats
  • Over 40 gallons of hand sanitizer

Auburn Makes' 85+ additive manufacturing printers were activated to begin producing face shields and face mask ear protectors.

More than 3,000 face shields have been produced and delivered to over 20 medical facilites across five states. In addtion, over 1,000 face mask ear protectors have been delivered.

Auburn Makes developed and outfitted an entire engieering building with protective divider screens for study areas in prepartion for returning students.
