ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING FACILITIES

REGULATIONS PERTAINING

TO AFTER HOUR USE

Students that are given the privilege of using Electrical and Computer Engineering Facilities at night or on the weekends must abide by certain regulations. These regulations are set up for the safety of the users and to prevent misuse of the facilities. The facilities and equipment are expensive and must be used by many students for a period of many years.

After hour access to Broun Hall and certain rooms within the building will be controlled through a key pad lock system designed, constructed and installed by Electrical and Computer Engineering personnel. Student entry to special laboratories will be controlled through an Authorization Code System where each student will have a unique code. Entry will be obtained by entering an authorized code in the key pad located at the door of the room. Students will be logged into the room by name and reports will be issued periodically to the professor in charge of the laboratory. If a student is authorized to enter any room in the building his/her authorization code will permit entry to the building through the loading dock door. All authorized after hour entry to Broun Hall will be through the loading dock door.

The following regulations must be strictly adhered to:

1) The student authorization code is 6 digits that must be picked from his/her student number in such a way that the number can be obtained again if forgotten. Examples are: the first 3 digits and the last 3 digits, the first 2, middle 2, and last 2 in reverse order, etc.

2) Each student must keep his/her authorization code secret and under no condition allow another student to use the number. The login is by student name and the owner will be held responsible for the actions of any person using his/her authorization code. An authorization code can be changed but it is our intent that a student keep the same authorization code for as long as he/she is an ECE Student. Only the rooms that a student is authorized to enter will change.

3) The authorized student will keep doors locked and not allow anyone else to enter the building or room with him/her. The only exception to this rule is when a working partner accompanies the student. If a student is planning to do anything that can be considered the least bit dangerous, or if the student has a medical problem where he/she should not be alone for a long period of time, or if he/she is not feeling well, then a working partner is a requirement of these regulations.

4) The student will only use equipment that he/she is familiar with. Then the student must be very careful to use the equipment in a manner and for the purpose for which the equipment was designed.

5) When a student leaves the laboratory the room must be neater than when he/she entered the room and he/she must log out by entering his/her authorization code and then the # key. Failure to log out may result in a temporary suspension of the authorization to use the room. The student must then have his/her authorization reinstated through the professor who authorized the use in the first place. In cases of misuse of a laboratory or equipment, all students logged in the lab at that time will have their authorization temporarily removed until the professor in charge can find out what happened. Therefore, log out so that if something happens after you leave you will not have your authorization suspended.

6) If a piece of equipment breaks or fails to work properly, then this should be reported to the professor in charge of the laboratory, or to shop personnel in Broun 255, the morning of the next school day.
