Transonic Wind Tunnel
M = 0.75-0.80
Size = 4" x 4 " Test Section
The transonic wind tunnel in the Advanced Laser Diagnostics Laboratory (ALDL) is specifically designed to be a mobile unit and enable the existing compressor and settling chamber to house both the supersonic wind tunnel and the current transonic wind tunnel. Both wind tunnels have a circular to square transition duct that slides into the settling chamber and the two flanges are bolted together to hold the wind tunnel in place (one flange on the mobile unit and one flange on the settling chamber). Transonic conditions are created in the test section by the use of a choke block downstream of the test section. The choke block creates a throat area A* and the test section has an area A. Through the area ratio (A/A*), transonic conditions are created in the test section.
