Supersonic Wind Tunnel
M = 1.5-4.0
Size = 4" x 4 " Test Section
The supersonic wind tunnel in the Advanced Laser Diagnostics Laboratory (ALDL) is used to perform Schlieren, Shadowgraph, Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS), and laser scattering techniques to study the flow field around a missile geometry. This supersonic wind tunnel is a mobile unit and enables the existing compressor and settling chamber to house both the supersonic wind tunnel and the current transonic wind tunnel. Each wind tunnel has a circular to square transition duct that slides into the settling chamber and the two flanges are bolted together to hold the wind tunnel in place (one flange on the mobile unit and one flange on the settling chamber).
