Problem 1/2 Page 13, Engineering Mechanics - Dynamics, Meriam and Kraige, 4th Edition

Given: Weight of 180 lb

Find: Mass in slugs.  Weight in newtons.  Mass in kilograms.

W = m g     g = 32.2 ft/s2

m = 180 lb / 32.2 ft/s2 = 5.59 lb s2/ft = 5.59 slug

To convert to weight to newtons, use the table in the front of the book.

1 lb = 4.4482 N

W = 180 lb * 4.4482 N/lb = 801 N

W = m g      g = 9.81 m/s2

m = 801 N / 9.81 m/s2

m = 81.6 N s2/m = 81.6 kg
