Why this certificate?
The Polymer Engineering Graduate Certificate program is designed to equip students with the advanced education needed to contribute to the existing industries that produce, process, and utilize polymer materials as well as those working in research and development, where new discoveries in polymer materials will impact every aspect of how they are used. The program focus is on the fundamentals of polymer chemistry and structure, polymer processing, and polymer characterization.
You are eligible to apply if...
- A relevant bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas is required: polymer engineering, fiber engineering, materials engineering/science, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related subject area.
- Experience in one of the aforementioned areas is preferred but not required.
- There is no GRE requirement.
To complete the program you must...
- Complete three required courses:
- PFEN 6200 Polymer Processing – 4 hours
- PFEN 6510 Polymer Chemistry – 3 hours
- PFEN 7700 Advanced Methods in Polymer Characterization – 4 hours
What can you expect?
- Students who earn this certificate will be able to 1) synthesize and articulate the engineering principles, sciences, and technologies that are utilized in the research, development, and application of polymer materials; 2) plan, execute, and analyze appropriate polymer materials characterization techniques; and 3) develop, analyze, properly test, and certify the safety of polymer materials and resulting composites.
- If a student chooses to pursue a master’s degree, all academic credit earned from the certificate may be applied toward the graduate degree.
