Bosen Lian, an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been appointed to the editorial boards of two leading academic journals: International Society of Automation (ISA) Transactions and the International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control. Both are renowned for their contributions to the science and engineering of measurement and automation control.

As an associate editor, Lian will manage the peer-review process, ensuring that manuscripts receive high-quality, timely and constructive reviews. He will evaluate the technical significance, originality and clarity of submissions, recommend editorial decisions and work closely with reviewers and authors to maintain the scientific rigor and high standards of the journal.

“Beyond handling manuscripts, I will contribute to identifying emerging research trends, promoting the journal within the community and encouraging high-impact submissions that align with its mission,” Lian said.

Through these roles, Lian aims to strengthen the visibility and reputation of the journals by facilitating the publication of innovative, rigorous and practically impactful research. He hopes to bridge theoretical advancements and engineering applications, particularly in artificial intelligence and machine learning-based control, autonomy and intelligent systems.

“By carefully curating a high standard of accepted work and supporting authors throughout the process, I want to contribute to advancing the fields that the journals serve and foster a dynamic, engaged research community around them,” he said.

Lian, who began these appointments on Jan. 1, emphasized the importance of researchers taking on editorial roles, noting that it is a professional responsibility and an opportunity to give back to the academic community.

“By taking on these roles, I can help sustain the integrity of the scientific record and promote the continual advancement of our field,” he said.

Additionally, Lian said that serving as an associate editor will support his professional growth by exposing him to cutting-edge research, sharpening his critical evaluation skills and enhancing his communication and leadership abilities. It will also expand his professional network and position him to contribute to and help shape the future directions of the field.

Taking on additional journal-related duties is nothing new to Lian. He was appointed associate editor for Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems and Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control in 2024.
