Yating Chai, doctoral student in Auburn University’s materials engineering program, has been selected as one of the university’s top 10 doctoral students by Auburn’s Graduate Council. The council recognizes 10 outstanding master’s students and 10 doctoral students from across campus each year.
Chai is a graduate research assistant in Auburn’s Materials Research and Education Center, where she is conducting work on the development of low-cost bio-sensing systems to detect food contamination in real time. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture through Auburn’s Detection and Food Safety Center. Chai’s research has been published in 15 papers and 12 presentations, and has resulted in one pending patent.
