Civil Engineering Faculty Named Officer of Geosynthetics Society
David Elton, associate professor of civil engineering in Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, has been named president-elect of the North American Geosynthetics Society (NAGS), of which he has served as vice president since 2002.
Elton received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Clarkson University; his master's degree from Utah State University; and his doctorate from Purdue University.
NAGS is a chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and is dedicated to the scientific and engineering development of geotextiles, geomembranes and associated technologies. IGS boasts a membership of 1,756 individual members, 102 corporate members from 68 countries, and 212 student members.
Elton is also a member of the International Geosynthetics Society; the U.S. National Society of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering; the United States University Council on Geotechnical Education and Research; and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
"During Dr. Elton's 20 years as Auburn Engineering faculty, he has been an ambitious contributor to the college's programs and wholly dedicated to helping create quality engineers," observes Larry Benefield, dean of engineering. "His leadership talents both in the college and in his roles with professional societies are testament to his passion for engineering and education."
