AU Engineering Faculty Receives $300,000 Research Grant
Pradeep Lall, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering faculty member, has received a $300,000 grant over three years from the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) to study simulation tools, modeling and test methodologies for electronic packaging under conditions of shock, vibration, temperature and assembly. SRC is the world's premier university research management consortium funded by companies including IBM and Texas Instruments.
"The research's long-term goal is developing a multi-disciplinary focus and broadening graduate-student research experiences in traditional mechanical engineering areas," says Lall. "It will enable development of fundamental knowledge for design of next generation portable electronics. The effort will also enable CAVE to expand its scope of research in extreme environments to include portable electronics applications".
Lall is associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and associate director of Auburn University's National Science Foundation's Center for Advanced Vehicle Electronics (CAVE), a nationally renowned center focused on harsh electronic environments.
He also serves as an associate editor for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' Journal of Electronic Packaging and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Transactions on Electronics Packaging Manufacturing. His research interests include development of predictive modeling and experimental techniques with emphasis on electronic packaging, micro electro mechanical sensors and nanoelectronics.
