AU Recognized for Study Abroad Advising Program

Three Auburn University counselors from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering were recognized at the National Academic Advising Association's (NACADA) 2005 meeting, including Bob Karcher, director of Engineering Student Services; Nick Conrad, director of Auburn's Global Education Initiatives; and academic counselor John Raines. All were recognized for their leadership, with Conrad accepting an award for his assistance in establishing NACADA's study abroad advising interest group.

"I am proud to represent Auburn at this conference and pleased the university is being recognized for its work in advising our students on international activities," said Conrad. "John Raines and Bob Karcher have been an integral part of this process over the years, and their ideas and participation have really put a new perspective on the direction we are taking in international studies."

With more than 8,300 members, NACADA was established in 1977 to promote and support quality academic advising in institutions of higher education and to enhance the educational development of students.

"Our global education initiatives provide our students opportunities to participate in and learn about engineering, economic and political environments around the world," says Larry Benefield, dean of the College of Engineering. "As engineers they will likely work in global markets, and as a result we want to enhance students skills and expertise in this area."
