AU Engineering Students Receive SAE Scholarships
Robert Wilmot from Marietta, Ga., and Sarah Gallops from West Hartford, Conn., both students in aerospace engineering, have received Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Long Term Member Sponsored Scholarships.
Established in 1994 and sponsored by the SAE Foundation, the $1,000 scholarship recognizes outstanding students who actively support SAE and its activities. It is awarded to students entering their senior year and selection is based solely upon students' involvement in SAE and its programs, the collegiate chapter, or the local SAE section and its activities.
Wilmot and Gallops are the sixth and seventh Auburn recipients; they represent the fourth consecutive year that Auburn students have received the scholarship, according to faculty advisor Peter Jones. Darrell Krueger, an Auburn mechanical engineering alumnus and former SAE Mini Baja team captain, was awarded the scholarship last year. He has since returned to Auburn's campus as a mechanical graduate student.
Wilmot is a junior in aerospace engineering and a member of the Formula SAE race car team and Auburn's SAE student chapter. Gallops is a senior in aerospace engineering and a member of Auburn Lady Tigers Mini Baja, one of the nation's first and only female SAE Mini Baja all-terrain vehicle teams.
"SAE bestows only six of these scholarships each year," says Jones. "Auburn having two of the six indicates the quality of our students."
SAE is a nonprofit educational and scientific organization dedicated to advancing mobility technology. Its membership includes approximately 83,000 engineers, business executives, educators and students from more than 97 countries.
