Thermal Management in Today's Cutting Edge Electronics
The electronics industry is now the primary driver of today's economy, recently unseating the automotive industry from the top position. This move is in part due to rapid advances in electronics manufacturing processes that have lead to significant increases in the number of transistors that can be integrated on a single chip.
However, as the number of transistors as grown, so has the challenge of dissipating the heat they transistors generate. At 2 p.m., on Thursday, October 14, Sushil Bhavnani, Auburn University faculty member in the department of mechanical engineering, will present a variety of advanced thermal management options for addressing this issue. The one hour seminar will be held in Broun Hall.
Bhavnani will discuss a variety of thermal management options including skived heat sinks, heat pipes, thermoelectric cooling, liquid immersions cooling phase change materials, and refrigerated systems.
The interdisciplinary seminar is sponsored by the Alabama Microelectronics Science and Technology Center and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
