Biosystems Engineering Student Interns in Washington

Ever wonder how government works? Sarah Sanders, a senior in biosystems engineering from Brundidge, Ala., was able to answer that question first hand this summer in Washington D.C. Sarah spent five weeks as an intern in Congressman Terry Everett's office. As an intern, she attended various committee meetings and briefings related to agricultural issues and she attended House and Senate sessions during discussions of pending legislation. As an office staff member, Sarah helped write letters to constituents along with many other administrative tasks. Her other duties included giving tours of the capitol building. She was even able to attend a lecture by Mikhail Gorbachev. Sarah says that this was a very eye-opening experience that taught her much about how our legislative process works.
