Auburn University’s Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) Department has seen significant growth in recent years, and is on an upward trajectory in terms of education, research and reputation. We are the largest and highest ranked department in the State of Alabama, and home to 28 research, teaching and tenure-track faculty, five adjunct/affiliate faculty, six staff members and over 1300 undergraduate and graduate students pursuing one of four undergraduate degrees (BS in Computer Science, Bachelor of Software Engineering, Bachelor of Wireless Engineering, and Bachelor of Computer Science), one of two Master’s degrees (MS in Cybersecurity Engineering and MS in CSSE) or PhD in CSSE. We expect to offer a third Master’s degree, MS in Data Science and Engineering, jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in fall 2019. Eight tenure-track and four teaching faculty were hired since 2016, and we expect to add more faculty in the coming years. Among our faculty are four NSF CAREER award winners and one Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers winner. CSSE faculty is diverse, international and active in the research areas of artificial and computational intelligence, autonomous land and aerial vehicles, bioinformatics and computational biology, data science and engineering, computer architecture, computer, cyber and infrastructure security, computer and wireless networks, computer science education, computer games, database systems, distributed, embedded, parallel and high performance computing systems, energy-efficient systems, human-computer interaction, image processing, internet of things, machine learning, mobile device software, modeling and simulation, multi-agent systems, and software analytics, engineering and visualization. The Auburn Cyber Research Center is situated within the department, and we work closely with Auburn’s McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security. Average ACT score of incoming freshmen stands above 29, close to 10% of our undergraduates are Honors students, and our graduates are highly sought after by the likes of Amazon and Google as well as federal agencies, industries and graduate schools.
