AURPI: Poultry Team
Poultry is one of Alabama's top economic drivers, with a $15 billion annual impact. It is prevalent in rural communities across the state, as it employs over 86,000 Alabamians across farms, processing plants, and related businesses. To support Alabama's rural communities, the Poultry Team is constantly working towards improving the poultry industry through research and innovation. They are currently working on projects focused on two diverse areas.
Install and validate the Arduino sensing systems, comparing their performance with Urban.io to ensure data reliability and identify improvement areas.
Scale the work into poultry facilities and eventually to other industries across Alabama.

The Poultry Team plans to use population-level and single-cell approaches to further evaluate the viability of Salmonella survival in poultry wastewater. They will evaluate the Salmonella cells to obtain antibiotic tolerance and use deep molecular approaches to better understand Salmonella in wastewater. Additionally, they will further develop their data integration plan for the poultry industry. They will create data dashboards for processors and refine hatchery dashboards and retest them across rural Alabama.
