Center of Excellence Award

The Center of Excellence Award recognizes a research center within the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering (SGCOE) that exemplifies excellence in research, engagement, and impact. This award celebrates the center’s contributions to advancing knowledge, fostering collaboration with faculty, students, and external stakeholders, and making significant contributions to its field and community. One award may be given annually with a $1,000 stipend.

Eligibility

  • Open to any research center within the SGCOE that has demonstrated significant achievements in research, engagement with external partners, and impactful contributions to the community or industry.
  • Recipients from the previous five years are not eligible.

Criteria

Nominations can be submitted at the center level. The nomination package is limited to five pages (12-point font and 1-inch margins), including a two-page letter summarizing the center’s achievements, engagement, and impact, and up to three pages of other supporting information, all submitted as a single PDF document. Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Research Excellence and Innovation: The center’s contributions to groundbreaking research, the quality and impact of its publications, and its leadership in advancing new knowledge within its field.
  2. External Engagement and Partnerships: The center’s successful engagement with industry, government, and/or community partners, including collaborations that have led to impactful research outcomes.
  3. Student Involvement and Development: Opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to engage in research, internships, and professional development through the center’s initiatives, as well as mentorship provided to students.
  4. Sustainability and Future Outlook: The center’s ability to sustain and expand its activities over time, including the development of new research directions, continuous funding acquisition, and future plans for growth and impact.
