Alternative intersections and interchanges involve the redirection of one or more movements from the
main junction. This is typically an attempt to improve safety, operations, cost, impacts, pedestrian and bicyclist movements, and other aspects compared to a conventional concept. In the past several decades many such alternative concepts have emerged. Including RCUTs, median u-turns, continuous flow intersections, diverging diamond interchanges, and others. This workshop is intended to introduce these concepts to planners and engineers with little previous background. The hope is that, during the development of future projects, alternative concepts will at least be considered.
