John H. Watson
Mechanical Engineering, 1960
From his humble beginnings in Skipperville, Ala., to his current position as chairman of Smith's Inc. of Dothan, John Watson has a distinguished history of engineering and business excellence. Following two years in the Corps of
Engineers, Watson took a position as a mechanical engineer at Smith's Inc. In 1966, only six years after his graduation from Auburn's engineering program, Watson became the co-owner and president of an engineering firm that would grow to be one of the most substantial companies in the region, as well a significant employer in the Wiregrass.
Today, Watson's business acumen can be seen not only in the mechanical engineering firm, but also through a design-build corporation and numerous other ventures. Watson's impressive accomplishments also include a commitment to those around him. He surrounds himself with people who share his dedication, and he makes a habit of giving back to those who are sure to have that same potential.
