I am deeply indebted to John Piper for helping me to systematize the philosophy articulated here. This philosophy is given a much better treatment than I can do here in Piper's book Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist, Multnomah Press, Portland, Oregon, 1986.

Piper has written another excellent book that explores Christian Hedonism from God's perspective. The book is The Pleasures of God: Meditations on God's Delight in Being God Multnomah Press, Portland, Oregon, 1991. He shows from Scripture that God is radically committed to the pursuit of his own pleasure and that this commitment is the only sure foundation for the blessedness of the Christian.
