Course Objectives

This course explores the basic concepts around bitcoin—the problems of the current monetary system, the solutions that bitcoin offers, the way bitcoin works, bitcoin vs. other cryptocurrencies, bitcoin mining and energy, investment principles, social implications, and extensions and applications. The course structure will be informal with students contributing material and choosing independent topics to explore.

Who Can Take It

"Exploring Bitcoin" is open to any student in any major. While there is a technical component to the course, it is presented in a way that is accessible to non-technical majors. Summer 2024 is probably the next possible offering.
