Day 6 - Wednesday, September 24th

The alarm sounded at 8AM. Slowly I arose. I rearranged the still wet clothes to new drying locations so that I could take a shower. It was around 9AM when I wandered down to breakfast. Shortly after I began to eat, Kurt Rosenberger from Germany entered and joined me at the table. We talked and ate. Actually, I did most of the listening. Before long Ellyn and Mary arrived and joined us. It was almost 10AM when I glanced at my watch. I quickly excused myself went up to my room to get my laptop and set out on foot for the venue. I arrived at about 10:30 and began working on the software to rid it of a few bugs. Over then next few hours several people came by and had brief conversations with me. It was about 1PM that Chris and Corinne came in to train. They were done around 3PM. I check my weight (no change from yesterday) and departed with them in the car. We stopped by the grocery store and then went to my hotel and parked the car. Jan joined us and we set out on foot to select a restaurant. We ordered at about 3:30 and did not leave until around 4:30. Back to the hotel we went. Up to the room I went.

I should mention that there are some procedures in Greece of which we in the USA are unfamiliar. When you check in to a hotel you get a key. When you leave the hotel for any reason you leave the key at the front desk and pick it up again when you return. This is done in a number of countries. Also, the lights and outlets in your room do not work unless you put the key in a special slot on a wall in your room. A couple of minutes after you remove the key the power goes out. It is a pretty good idea for saving energy, but makes it difficult to charge your laptop battery while away from the hotel. In addition, opening the windows causes the air conditioning to turn off.

Finally, there is the toilet paper. There is a special can (trash can with a lid) in the bathroom into which used toilet paper is to be placed. Here you are not supposed to flush the tissue down the toilet. That is a bit difficult to do due to the habits of a lifetime. Contrary to what one might think, it is quite sanitary.

Somewhere around 7PM Ellyn sent me a text message asking about dinner. I met them downstairs and we went across the street to eat. I had a nice caesar salad and a "my toes" beer. Upon our return to the hotel there was a small crew outside the hotel that we joined at one of the tables. It was Jan, Jose Postigo and his wife from the Dominican Republic (actually they live in Florida), and Maria Ruiz from Nicaragua. Jan ordered some wine for us and we had a festive time for a while. Before long a few more people arrived (just got in from the States). It was Walter Imahara (IWF-Masters chairman), Glenn Harris, and Kathi Evans; all from Louisiana. Glenn and Kathi joined us at the table. A little later Marilyn Munkres from the USA and a friend arrived. Not long thereafter most of us headed up to our rooms.

The meetings start tomorrow morning (joy, joy).
