David Kim is an Associate Professor in the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department at Oregon State University. He received his B.S.E. in 1984, M.S.E. in 1989, and Ph.D. in 1990 all in industrial and operations engineering from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also received a B.S. in Biology from UCLA in 1982. Prior to coming to Oregon State University, David worked at General Motors Corporation (GM) for 10 years in both a research and development position and as the manager of operations research in the GM Truck Group. David staffed and headed the first operations research department (outside of R&D) at GM. His experience at General Motors revolved around operational methods in automotive production. His main focus while at GM was to develop and apply performance analysis tools for automotive production systems. This included both mathematical and simulation approaches to system performance analysis. He was also involved the development of tools for product planning, manufacturing cost analysis, and production system design.  David also was an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst for three semesters.
