David Kim is an Associate Professor in the Industrial and
Manufacturing Engineering Department at Oregon State
University. He received
his B.S.E. in 1984, M.S.E. in 1989, and Ph.D. in 1990 all in industrial and
operations engineering from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also received a B.S. in Biology
from UCLA in 1982. Prior to coming to Oregon State
University, David worked
at General Motors Corporation (GM) for 10 years in both a research and
development position and as the manager of operations research in the GM Truck
Group. David staffed and headed the first operations research department
(outside of R&D) at GM. His experience at General Motors revolved
around operational methods in automotive production. His main focus while at GM
was to develop and apply performance analysis tools for automotive production
systems. This included both mathematical and simulation approaches to system
performance analysis. He was also involved the development of tools for product
planning, manufacturing cost analysis, and production system design.
David also was an assistant professor at the University
of Massachusetts, Amherst for three semesters.
