Space Mission Design Lecture 20

What's happening in space:

Elektron Status: The Elektron is performing well after repairs performed duing joint operations. The Russian side had planned to commence 24 hours per day operations this evening. However, since a software patch required to provide automatic shutdown capability was not yet ready, these operations were postponed. The software is expected to be ready tomorrow.

Major Constituent Analyzer (MCA) Full Calibration: The MCA was calibrated today, using a gas standard internal to the MCA to achieve a full calibration. This calibration is scheduled for evary 6 weeks, and the next one is due GMT 341.

P6 Battery Reconditioning: The P6 4B2 Battery set began reconditioning operations today. These operations will continue for approximately the next 7 days, and has been proceeding nominally so far. Reconditioning the batteries improves battery performance and also allows insight into data that helps assess battery health. During this activity, Battery Charge/Discharge Unit (BCDU) 4B2 will be off line and the 4B power channel will be supported in eclipse by the other two BCDUs. With one BCDU offline, channel 4B power levels will be limited to a max of 9.5 kW (normally limited to 12.2 kW).
