James 'Old Pete' Longstreet was called "My War Horse" by Gen. Robert E. Lee. Longstreet commanded a wing in the Army of Northern Virginia during the Battle of Sharpsburg. Longstreet's command supported that of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson in the early morning's fighting and were heavily involved in the mid-morning fighting near the Mumma Farm where they were engaged by Edwin Sumner's II Corps and the remants of John Sedgwick's division. |
