Musings

Winter Holidays 2005:
Saw the movies:
Sea Biscuit - What an amazing movie ! It was a very good movie that I had seen in a long long time.
I had gotten used to seeing the same good movies again and again instead of seeing dumb new ones. This one
came like a breather. Whenever you are feeling in the dumps or if you have had a string of 'low-motivation' days, this
is the movie to see!
Twisted - Good thriller movie. Nice time pass.
Kal Ho Na Ho - I had put off seeing this dumb movie for a long time. Finally did yield to boredom but ... oh God! They should have called it 'Akal Ho Na Ho'. Do people really pay money and see such kind of movies in the theater ?! I seriously thought the movie was about to end and suddenly the 'Intermission' sign flashed on the screen!
Need I say more? This movie sucks big-time. I wouldnt watch it again even if Shah Rukh Khan gives up acting. Uggh... Why cant he be selective like Aamir Khan and do some good movies?

Bibliophilia

Books, Books and Books. I love them. I try to read as many books as possible. Hope to catch up on some good ones this summer.
Some of the absolutely 'must-read' books that I have read recently (Forget the best-sellers guys. Grow UP!):
A Passage to India by E.M.Forster
Men Of Mathematics by E.T.Bell
A Mathematician's Apology by Prof.G.H.Hardy
The Double Helix by James D.Watson (of Watson and Crick fame).
Dave Barry's Greatest Hits by Dave Barry ... Hilarious!
It's not about the bike: My journey back to life by Lance Armstrong ... Awesome resilience of the only man to have won the Tour de France 6 times! Thats after he had life-threatening cancer! If there ever was a man who made a comeback to win not just the greatest bicycle race in France but in life, he is the one!

Some of the books by Bertrand Russell that I read recently(and not so recently as well!) are
Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy
ABC of Relativity
An Inquiry into Meaning and Truth

Most Recent Reading:  The Four Minute Mile by Roger Bannister - The first man who ran a mile in under 4 minutes in 1954. He wrote this book in 1955. The insight into the mind of a successful runner who took up runnning ONLY for pleasure and not as a profession! He went on to become a outstanding neurologist and even authored many books on neurology. Dont miss this one.
