THE MAN FROM TUSCALOOSA
(THE BALLAD OF PAUL ABEAR@ BRYANT)
Born and raised in Moro Bottom, a farm boy from Arkansas.
Got his nickname wrestling down a bear. He loved his ma and pa.
Played the other end for Bama and they can’t forget him there.
He’s the man from Tuscaloosa. He’s the one that we called bear.
He turned skinny little white boys into hell-for-leather men.
He's gone to play a bigger game where it’s still first and ten.
A legend in his own time. By his word we could swear.
He's the man from Tuscaloosa. He’s the one that we called bear.
He’s the man from Tuscaloosa
He’s Alabama's pride
But he knew his time was growing short,
And so he stepped aside.
Now all we’ve got are memories.
Paul ABear@ Bryant has died.
He’s the man from Tuscaloosa.
Roll on you crimson tide.
Well, they saw he was the greatest coach and he could motivate.
And he rewrote the record book. That’s not what made him great.
He was a friend and in the end men like him are rare.
He’s the man from Tuscaloosa. He’s the one that we called bear.
He’s the man from Tuscaloosa
He’s Alabama’s pride
But he knew his time was growing short,
And so he stepped aside.
Now all we’ve got are memories.
Paul ABear@ Bryant has died.
He’s the man from Tuscaloosa.
Roll on you crimson tide.
