Developed a method for measuring 3D left ventricular (LV) strain from phase unwrapped harmonic phase (HARP) images derived from tagged cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Semi-automated segmentation of the myocardium was performed. Phase unwrapping of the HARP phase was performed with the help of a graphical user interface for branch-cut placement. Displacements and full-field 3D strain maps were computed using an affine prolate spheroidal Bspline method. |

· Processed cine and tagged MR images using in-house software. · Created tools for time series analysis and contour approximation in above mentioned software. · Implemented procedures for torsion and shear angle computation. · Calculated geometric and functional parameters. · Analyzed 3D strain and volume models of left ventricle. · Studied anatomy and physiology of the heart. § Performed statistical analysis for comparison of parameters for hearts of different pathologies.

In previous work, manually placed branch cuts were used to resolve phase inconsistencies in HARP images before they were unwrapped. An automated method for placing branch cuts in short-axis images based on simulated annealing with a new cost function based on temporal phase consistency was developed. This method significantly reduces the amount of user interaction needed to compute 3D strain maps in the entire LV in each imaged time frame. |
