Novel MRI Contrast Agent


The Goldsmith lab reports a novel manganese-containing contrast agent for MRI imaging. The molecular architecture is distinct from those of previously reported manganese contrast agents in that the organic component (ligand) lacks both a macrocycle and an anionic charge. The aqueous stability of the sensor and its ability to increase the relaxitivity of bulk water molecules suggest that the design limitations for manganese contrast agents are less stringent than previously believed.
