Auburn Students Win Top Awards at AIChE Regional Conference in Clemson, SC

Members of the Auburn AIChE student chapter, advised by Dr. Robert Chambers, received top awards at the 2012 AIChE Regional Conference in Clemson, SC.

Jimmy Kaczmarek, advised by Dr. Mark Byrne, won both Overall Conference Third Place in the Regional Paper/Poster Competition and Section First Place for his research project entitled "Therapeutic Silicon Hydrogel Lenses: Engineering Extended and Controlled Release." Kaczmarek is the fourth Southern Regional Overall Conference winner from Auburn Chemical Engineering.

Amanda Paine, also advised by Byrne, was awarded Section First Place in the Regional Paper/Podium Competition. Her research project is entitled "Dual Comfort Contact Lenses for Allergies." 

Phillip Higginbotham, advised by Dr. Virginia Davis, was awarded Section Third Place in the Regional Paper/Podium for his paper "Characterization of Bucky Papers Using Capillary Flow Poromery."

The AU Chemical Engineering car team, led by juniors Benjamin Todd and Andrew Jones, won "Most Creative Design Award" out of 17 teams from across the Southeast. The car team is advised by faculty advisor Dr. Bill Josephson and staff advisor Brian Schwieker.
