Students in the department recently conducted senior design projects with cooperation from local companies in a variety of industries.
The two-semester capstone engineering design class helps students sharpen their engineering skills and apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real-life experiences. During the fall, student teams identify, characterize and solve a number of engineering problems. Part of the semester is spent visiting the companies, getting to know its work environment and identifying areas of possible improvement in their projects. Teams then present the results of their activities and plans for the next semester to industry engineers and faculty in the department.
Students follow a rigorous engineering design strategy, writing a report and presenting their final findings and proposed improvements to be completed by the end of spring semester.
