The Polymer and Fiber Engineering curriculum offers two options, reflecting the importance of polymers and fibrous materials in fields as plastics, elastomers (rubber), adhesives, surface coatings (paints), paper, packaging, insulation, filtration, automotive, aerospace, composite, biomedical, marine, construction, environmental, industrial, nonwoven, recreational, and safety materials.
The Department has state-of-the-art facilities to manufacture and characterize many polymer and fibrous materials, top faculty members and scholars who are known for their knowledge and expertise in the US and around the world, excellent technicians working closely with the students and running the labs, and a dedicated academic advisor and placement officer to help students with scheduling their classes and finding a job after graduation.
A large number of industries are moving to our region, mostly focused on automotive, aerospace, polymers and composites which provide career opportunities for those who have knowledge of polymers and fibers. Many of these industries show direct support for our department by hiring many of our graduates, providing internships, working closely with our students during their senior design projects, supporting some of the departmental activities such as the hovercraft project, and donating materials and equipment to the department. This strong relationship with the industry provides a unique opportunity for our students to get a firsthand experience of the work in large companies and help them complement some of their theoretical knowledge.
We have our own study abroad program for undergraduate and graduate students offering a unique chance to learn about polymer and fibers while being immersed in a different culture expanding the horizon of learning possibilities and giving our students an edge in the global job market.
We invite you to tour our website and get to know more about our people, our programs and our facilities. If you have a question, want more information about the program, or want to schedule a visit, feel free to email Ms. Ashley Winfree (sandeaa@auburn.edu) or call her at (334) 844-5457.
