Auburn's
solar house is constructed in two modules that are
attached to typical steel mobile home frames. Although
the structure begins on these mobile home frames,
it certainly is not a typical mobile or modular home.
The structure of the house is composed primarily of
structural insulated panels
(SIPs) and a mixture of structural
composite lumber and dimension
lumber. The fact that the house had to be
transported
to Washington D.C. for competition had a big impact
on the structural design
of the home including the foundation
and the wood
structural members and wood mechanical connections.
Throughout
the construction of our home close attention was paid
to safety. |
