2012 Bolivia Travel Team Application

QUESIMPUCO, BOLIVIA
August 2-12, 2012

  • PURPOSE:
    • The primary purpose of this trip is the implementation of the projects planned during the 2011-2012 school year. These projects include constructing water distribution system to bring irrigation water to a lower region of a nearby village and designing a hydroponic demonstration plot to experiment with growing different types of crops .
  • TEAM MEMBERS:  Approximately 15 students.
  • ACCOMODATIONS:  The teams will be staying in SIFAT’s bunkhouse in Quesimpuco.  It consists of dormitory style bunkrooms with restroom and shower facilities.  Electricity is available and meals will be cooked and served from the small kitchen here.
  • TRANSPORTATION:  The team will fly in and out of the La Paz International Airport.  From the airport, the team will make the 15 hour drive to Quesimpuco in 4x4 Jeeps that will be rented in country.
  • Local Partnerships:  Southern Institute for Appropriate Technology (SIFAT) is the organization we will be partnering with for this and future projects.  Their headquarters is located in Lineville, AL and they have over 30 years of experience working in this area.  We will spend a team building weekend at their Lineville campus and SIFAT personnel will be traveling with us to Quesimpuco.
  • SAFETY:  SIFAT has taken many teams to this area and have not encountered any safety issues.  The town of Quesimpuco has a very low crime rate.  We will be staying in the capital city of La Paz for a day.  Participants are expected to practice common sense here and to conduct themselves in a manner that will appropriately represent Auburn, EWB, and SIFAT.
  • COST:  $2500.  This is an estimated value to cover plane tickets, in country transportation, accommodations, and meals.  Cost is subject to change.  There will be fund raising opportunities available for team members to help offset the cost of the trip.
