About Tau Beta Pi
Welcome to the Alabama Alpha at Auburn University's Tau Beta Pi webpage. Tau Beta Pi was founded in 1885 at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and is the nation's oldest and most prestigious engineering honor society. Tau Beta Pi recognizes the most outstanding engineering students around the nation and gives them a forum to apply their talents to better the world in which they live. Auburn has the oldest chapter in Alabama, and a great deal of history inducting students since 1921. Even brighter than our chapter's past is our future where we strive to maintain the honor and dignity of Tau Beta Pi and use our talents to better the world around us.
The Bent
Auburn's bent has been polished. Its future permanent location is still uncertain. Ideas are to maybe replace the concrete bent currently in front of Ramsay Hall or possibly incorporate it somewhere in the up and coming Engineering Transportation Technology Center.
Our bent is about 4 feet tall and 1.5 feet wide. Our bent was made outside of San Diego using the lost wax technique. A bent was sculpted out of wax, and the wax was placed vertically in a bed of sand. Molten bronze was poured in to the sand, replacing the wax. Supports were placed in the metal before it cooled.
