Second Michelin Tire Test Spring 2009
During the weekend of May 2nd, the team made their second trip to Laurens, South Carolina to visit the Michelin Laurens Proving Grounds for another Spring tire test. The weather was very cooperative during the day, and allowed the car to run during the morning. Some small mechanical issues kept the car in the pits during the middle portion of the day, but the team worked very hard to keep the car on the track. We collected some very useful tire temperature and engine data that will help us setup the car for the upcoming competition in Michigan.
As the day closed, the threat of rain loomed ever closer. With an hour left in the session, a heavy rain came down for 15 straight minutes. Rather than pack up for the day, the team showed great spirit and decided to throw on the rain tires and complete some wet driving laps. The car handled very well in the wet weather, despite the standing water on the track.
After packing up to go back to Auburn, the rain-soaked team members headed for dinner, then hit the road to get home. It was a very long weekend, but, despite the mechanical issues, the team worked to make it a successful one. Thank you to our contacts at Michelin; we appreciate your help! War Eagle!
