Auburn returned to the proving grounds of Laurens, South Carolina again for 2007 to evaluate two new Michelin tyre compounds specifically developed for the Formula SAE race series. One of Michelin's own test drivers had the opportunity to drive the course in our 2007 car. Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia Tech have been cooperating with Michelin since 2005 by running each new prototype tire on their cars in practice and formal competition. All three teams were impressed that one of the new tyre compounds consistently returned lap times a second and a half faster than any previous releases. We are certainly excited to run the new compound and plan to conduct further testing to confirm the results seen so far.

The weekend would have been nowhere near as successful without the great aid of our large group of new team members. Each of which gained valuable experience with what it takes to get a car prepared to run in such an event within narrow time constraints and an assortment of inconveniences along the way. We anticipate a return to Michelin in the Spring of 2008 with our new car to do some preliminary testing and tuning with the new and improved compound.
