Michelin Tyre Testing 2007

Auburn returned to the proving grounds in Laurens, South Carolina again for 2007 to evaluate two new Michelin tyre compounds specifically developed for the Formula SAE race series. (Other teams present: Georgia Tech and Clemson University). Read more

New Aprilia V-twin

Auburn FSAE is excited to announce the arrival of our new Aprilia 550cc V-twin power plant. The idea of incorporating a new engine into the Auburn car has been thrown around some in the past, and this years powertrain section leaders (Jeffery Cobb, Austin Longshore, and Garrett Fulton) have finally decided to take the initiative to do so. 2007 West Competition

FSAE International 2007

September 4, 2007

The 2007 Formula SAE International Competition in Romeo, Michigan was abound with great teams from all over the globe, and our team's performance proved to establish Auburn as a top performing institution again for 2007. In this years event, Auburn was ranked as the 12th overall finisher out of over 130 total entrants which exceeds the performance of the 2006 competition where the team finished 15th. Read more
 
Michelin Tire Test

November 11, 2006

This past weekend the team had the opportunity to visit our new partner in tire and chassis development, Michelin.  Michelin once again invited us to attend a track day at their exclusive Laurens Proving Grounds (LPG) to test tires.  We left Auburn on Friday with a caravan of three trucks, two trailers, three racecars, and fifteen people, and single tool that we could possibly cram into that space.  After about a six hour drive we arrived at Michelin, dropped off our trailers, and proceeded to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.  Read more
 
Sponsor Appreciation Day

This year the Formula team held the first of what we hope will be an annual tradition, our 2006 Sponsor Appreciation Day.  We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who contributed to the team last year.  We had a very successful and fun day.  Team alum and donor Gilbert Fournelle, our contacts from Grainger, Royal Purple, and the whole crew from Willie’s Cycle Salvage were in attendance. Walt Woltosz and Red Bull Drive Day

Two of our sponsors stopped by to drive our 2006 car.  Walt Woltosz is the CEO of Simulations Plus and Kyle Cooper is the student representative for Red Bull at Auburn University.

Visit to Mr. Jerry Rhodes

Yesterday David and Ben drove several hours up to Gadsden, AL to visit a new friend and potential sponsor, Mr. Jerry Rhodes. The team first met Jerry when he stopped by the shop on the day of the LSU game to see the car and purchase some team shirts.

Grainger Sponsor Visit

The Formula team has made a visit to yet another sponsor. This time the lucky winner is W.W. Grainger, Inc. Grainger is an industrial supply store that carries everything from hand soap to screw drivers to massive tool chests and storage cabinets. They have products for the backyard garage as well as the larger manufacturing plant.

Panoz & Year One Tour

October 5, 2006

Last Friday the team went to Braselton, Georgia to visit one of the most prominent race car manufacturers in the world – Panoz. Panoz was recently featured in Race Car Engineering for their new DP01, which will be the new spec car for the American Champ Car series in 2007. We went to their headquarters to see the facility and the new car, guided by Simon Marshall, chief designer of the DP01. What a trip it was!   Read more
 
Alabama Bolt and Industrial Specialty Company

For the second sponsor visit of the year Jason and Ben took the 06 car out to Alabama Bolt and Industrial Specialty Company, Inc, both in Montgomery. Charlie Ferguson and the gang at AL Bolt are always fun to talk to and are always interested in the car.

Maule Sponsor Visit

As part of its yearly round of sponsor visits, the Formula team recently made the trek out to Moultrie, GA to visit our friends at Maule Air, who donate tubing and sheet metal to be used in constructing our frame and other chassis components. Rob, Nate, and Elliot took the new truck on its first long distance trip to show Brent and David Maule the new car.

War Eagle Motorsports Shop Move

As Auburn Formula SAE continues to grow our physical confines must grow as well.  Over the past several years we have acquired new members, new parts, new cars, and new machinery (most notably our Haas CNC), all of which our current shop space is no longer able to contain.

Practice for SCCA Nationals

In late September the Sports Car Club of America will holds it’s annual Solo II Nationals, which we plan to attend. In preparation for this event we have gone to two SCCA autocrosses in the past two weeks. Read more

 
Auburn Formula Goes West

For most of the year we weren’t sure we would be able to go to the new FSAE West in California but at the last second we managed to pull together just enough funding to make the journey. Read more
Formula SAE International Competition

June 26, 2006

This year at Formula SAE in Romeo, Michigan Auburn faced more obstacles than any competition in recent memory and still managed to emerge with a 15th place overall out of 125. Read more
 
Michelin and Auburn Partnership

June 8, 2006

     In 2006 Auburn began a partnership with Michelin that we expect will benefit both parties to a great degree. Michelin recognizes the sizable market that exists in Formula SAE and has launched a project to design an FSAE-specific tire that they hope will rival Hoosier for event domination.   Read more
