September 12, 2005 IEEE Meeting: Richard Bishop, "Intelligent Vehicle Technology and Trends" 5:15pm @ Broun 238
Richard Bishop will provide an overview of the broad and very vigorous field of intelligent vehicle technology -- systems on-board vehicles which can sense the surrounding environment and detect crashes or other hazards and assist the driver in safe maneuvering. The variety of applications includes forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, drowsy driver warning, lane keeping, and even full automation of the driving task. Several of these systems are already on the market in cars, heavy trucks, and transit buses. Mr. Bishop's talk will address both technical and market issues on a global basis, concluding with some perspectives on "what's hot" in terms of research and technology needs to support this transition to ever-smarter cars.

Richard Bishop is an EE graduate from Auburn, author of the new ITS book "Intelligent Vehicle Technology and Trends," and owner of Bishop Consulting. For a complete abstract, please select Word or PDF format.
