ISE senior named Undergraduate Student of the Year

Savannah Chernetsky is the 2024 Outstanding Undergraduate Student of the Year for the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE). Voted on by the department, the criteria for the award included experience, leadership and involvement.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this award, and I know I could not have done it without the support from my professors and friends,” Chernetsky said. “I am so thankful to have such great classmates who have become some of my closest friends.”

Originally from Suwanee, Georgia, Chernetsky followed in her parents’ footsteps by attending Auburn. She entered as a math major and switched to ISE after a recommendation from a friend.

“I realized there were so many different paths I could take with it, so I joined,” Chernetsky said. “I’ve loved it ever since.”

Chernetsky works as a tutor mentor and peer tutor with the Office of Academic Support, where she tutors chemistry, algebra and calculus. She is part of the Honors College, a peer mentor for the EAGLES program and serves as the e-council representative for engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi.

Chernetsky has participated in the Interdisciplinary Center for Advanced Manufacturing Systems (ICAMS) Mechatronics program, was an intern in the Lean Promotion Office at Emory Healthcare, was an area manager intern at Amazon and participated in a Deloitte consulting externship in Chicago.

After graduation, she will work full-time in Atlanta with Deloitte, a business management consultant firm, as a government and public services business technology solutions analyst.

ISE has led Chernetsky to meet great friends and advance her academic journey.

“I have met my best friends in my classes, and it has been incredible being able to share classes and spend our days together,” she said. “Our class curriculum has been very interesting and applicable to real life.”
