Jorge Rueda, assistant professor of civil engineering, has been selected to work on a National Cooperative Highway Research Program project through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Transportation Research Board.

The project, titled “Improving Mid-Term, Intermediate and Long-Range Cost Forecasting: Guidance for State Departments of Transportation,” aims to improve forecasting for mid-term, intermediate and long-range time horizons to better account for cost variability, economic volatility and risk. The study will produce a user-friendly framework to assist departments of transportation in the selection and implementation of strategies, methods and tools to forecast construction costs over long periods of time.

Rueda will serve as principal investigator for this project alongside researchers from Arizona State University, Cal Poly Pomona and Applied Research Associates.
